Ogun State gubernatorial candidate of African Democratic
Congress (ADC), Prince Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, has described the Tradermoni
policy of the federal government as advanced form of vote buying.

Isiaka stated this on Monday at a world press conference he
addressed in Abeokuta, where he examined the current situation of Ogun State.
“Vote buying is real and it is a plague with huge implication
on our future growth”, he said.
Isiaka took a swipe at the current administration in Ogun
State for relegating good governance to the back seat, with its attendant
discontented citizenry.
He noted that the state has witnessed a downward trend in the
area of education, health, sports, social services and fiscal discipline.
He decried the failure of leadership, arising from
insincerity in policy decisions, misapplication of resources and self aggrandizement
on the part of government, all of which combined to slow down growth of the
state.
According to Isiaka: “Education in Ogun State today is in
shambles with abysmal funding, decrepit infrastructure, unmotivated teachers
and disillusioned student populace.
“Whereas government’s figures indicate that 20% of yearly
budgets are allocated to education, the reality is that actual disbursements to
that sector stood less at about 6% year to year.
“The big controversy at Tai Solarin College of Education
(TASCE) over several months of unpaid salaries and the MAPOLY/MAUTECH
imbroglio, are sad signals of the current decay. Ogun continuously recedes in
examination performances and shamefully, we are currently ranked 19th
by WASSCE result as at 2017/2018”.
The ADC candidate also condemned the failed model schools
project of the current administration across the state, which according to him,
gulped N1.2 billion per unit, at the expense of the abandoned existing secondary
schools that should have been rehabilitated to “model colleges of excellence”.
Speaking on the health care system, Prince Isiaka disclosed
that the state hospitals and health care centres across the state are lacking
basic medical equipment, basic drugs and adequate medical personnel. A
development he described as worrisome.
The attempt by the current administration to construct a
250-bed modern hospital with a promise to deliver it by May 2019, was described
by Isiaka as a wild goose chase.
He wondered why such white elephant project should be
embarked upon at the twilight of the administration, when people are suffering
from lack of potable water.
In his assessment of the human capital development of the
current administration, Isiaka gave a verdict of woeful failure, as he noted
that prohibitive cost of governance and misapplication of scarce resources to
graft-ridden projects have denied citizens access to quality education and
affordable health care.
He pointed out that the urban renewal of the current
administration, which has road infrastructure development as its core, has been
limited only to construction of flyovers and expansion of existing roads within
limited parts of the state.
He said: “Because of the insincerity around the projects, we
are not surprised that the last eight years have witnessed a government that
embarked on gale of misdirected activities that saw emergence of some widened
roads and several flyovers, but in the process built a people discontented and
stricken with poverty.
“A trip to our towns and local communities will reveal an
appalling condition of these areas lacking in motorable roads, infrastructure
and other social amenities”.
Speaking on the way forward, Prince Isiaka, who promised
issue-based campaign, said that Ogun State citizens cannot afford another four or
eight years of self aggrandizement or sustaining a failed rebuilding mission in
any guise.
He admonished the electorate to choose between darkness and
light; sincerity and deceit; capacity and mediocrity, as the state cannot
afford another four years of indirect tenure elongation for the apostle of
mission to rebuild or have in the saddle of government, an ill prepared
candidate whose only agenda is to sustain the current decline.
However, Prince Isiaka has raised the alarm about a
clandestine and well orchestrated plan by known opposition political parties to
manipulate the March 2nd, 2019 gubernatorial election. He assured
that his party shall not be taken by surprise by the plot, as the party is
fully ready to protect through lawful means the votes freely given by the
people.
He called on the new Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ogun
State and his team to make every vote count and resist the temptation and
inducement of the current administration.
Isiaka also urged the people of the state to embrace ADC as
the vehicle that will engender the greater Ogun State agenda of making life
more abundant for all.
