The Nigeria
Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, on Friday organised political
debate tagged,”2019 Ogun Political Debate”, for candidates of various political
parties contesting for elective positions in the 2019 general elections.

The
candidates that participated in the debate were: Apostle Biodun Sanyaolu of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who is contesting for the Ogun Central
senatorial seat; Hon. Sabur Aroyewun, contesting for the Ogun Central
senatorial seat on the platform of Labour Party; Hon. Olusegun Williams,
seeking re-election into the House of Representatives on the platform of Labour
Party, and Barrister Adebayo Somoye of the Accord Party, contesting for the
House of Representatives seat in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
In his
opening remark, the Chairman of Ogun State Council of NUJ, Comrade Wole Sokunbi,
commended the candidates who turned up at the debate for making good use of the
opportunity created by the NUJ to reach out to the electorate in selling their manifestos
.
Sokunbi said
the political debate organised by NUJ is in fulfillment of the responsibility
of journalists to the society.
He therefore
called on the candidates to ensure that all the promises made to the electorate
during the debate and subsequent campaigns are kept when they are elected.
Earlier in
his welcome address, the Chairman of the “2019 Ogun Political Debate” committee,
Comrade Lanre Ogunyinka, said the 2019 political debate is in furtherance of
the successes recorded in the 2015 edition of the political debate.
He advised
the candidates and their supporters on the need to be of good conduct and
engage in issue-based debate that will bring development to the state.
All the
candidates that participated in the debate promised to offer quality
representation and sponsor bills that will enhance the quality of lives of
their constituents if elected.
