INEC declares Ortom winner of Benue governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Samuel Ortom of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Benue governorship election.

According to the Returning Officer, Mr. Sebastine Maimako, Ortom scored 434,473 votes to defeat his main opponent, Mr. Emmanuel Jime of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 345,155 votes.

Oetom had earlier polled 410,576 votes during the March 9 governorship election, while Jime polled 329,022 votes.

In the supplementary elections held on Saturday, Ortom polled 23,897 votes to defeat Jime who polled 16,133 votes.
