Amosun pays outstanding salary deductions of Ogun workers

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday, ordered the payment of outstanding salary deductions and leave bonuses of Ogun State workers owed in the last three years.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun
Amosun disclosed this at the workers' day celebration held at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta.

The governor had on several occasions promised that he would not leave office without paying the workers their emoluments, describing the directive to pay the outstanding emoluments as promise made and promise kept.

Governor Amosun assured the workers that they would start receiving alerts of the deduction payments from May 2, as he has approved the release of N10.8bn to clear the backlog of salary deductions.

According to the governor, the April salary will also be paid in full with the sum of N9.4bn, making the total release to be N20.2bn.

In his reaction to Governor Amosun's gesture, the Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Ogun State, Comrade Emmanuel Bankole, said it is a welcome development because the economy of the state will be positively impacted when workers engage in buying and selling with the money received.

The Chairman of Trade Union Congress in the state, Comrade Bunmi Fajobi, also commended the governor for not disappointing the workers.
