Buhari makes u-turn, extends lockdown for 14 days

Contrary to the statement signed on Saturday, by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, informing that President Muhammadu Buhari has approved that the 'stay at home' directive will continue until the scientists and medical experts advised otherwise, the President, on Monday, made a u-turn, and approved that the lockdown be extended for another 14 days in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun States.

According to the President, in nationwide address on Monday evening, the extension of the lockdown is to sustain the current efforts of government in containing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

Buhari thanked Nigerians for their patience, understanding and compliance with the restriction order in the last two weeks.

He advised Nigerians to continue to observe the guidelines put in place to combat the coronavirus pandemic, by observing social distance rule, washing of hands regularly and use of face masks.
