Coronavirus lockdown: Ijebu North LG begins distribution of food items

Ijebu North local government, on Thursday, began distribution of food items to residents of the Council Area, who are poor and vulnerable.

The distribution of the food items, was meant to cushion the effect of the lockdown imposed on Ogun State to contain the spread of coronavirus pandemic.

The exercise, which was led by the Chairman, Transition Committee, Ijebu North local government, Hon. Olusola Yekeen Jayeola, took off at the Ade Okubanjo Model School for the Visually Challenged people, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, where teachers and students benefited from the food items distributed.

The Chairman was accompanied on the distribution exercise by members of the Local Government Transition Committee, the Head of Local Government Administration, Heads of Department, all Heads of Security Organization in the local government.

Other places visited by the team, where food items were distributed include, Ogun State Hospitals Management Board's Hansen Disease Settlement, Oke Eriwo, Ijebu-Igbo, where the leprosy inmates got their share of the package.

The inhabitants of the Refugee Camp, Oru, Ijebu, were not left out, as they collected the food items.

The Spokesperson of the Refugee Camp, Mrs. Halima Issa, commended the government's gesture, and later made passionate appeal to the government, to find solution to the perennial scarcity of potable water in the camp.

According to her, the camp serves as home to about 50 families, and this makes it imperative for the provision of drinkable water to avoid another round of epidemic.

Hon. Jaiyeola promised to find an urgent solution to the problem.

The team was later decentralized into three, in accordance with the zones in the constituency (Ijebu-Igbo, Oru-Awa-Ilaporu and Ago-Iwoye), for effective reach of the poor and the vulnerable.

The Council Chairman headed the  Ago-Iwoye team, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Sansa Ismaila and Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Sanwo Habiblahi, headed the Ijebu-Igbo team, while the Oru-Awa-Ilaporu team was led by the Supervisor for Medical & Health, Hon. Yinusa Adekunle.

Hon Jayeola, while applauding the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his foresight and magnanimity in providing the food package for the poor and the vulnerable, also commended the security agencies, especially, the three Divisional Police Officers and the Commander of NSCDC in the local government for making themselves and their officers  available to provide security for the exercise which went smoothly. 

Great Achiever Magazine reports that the distribution of food items to the poor and vulnerable continues on Friday across the local government.
