COVID-19: Complaints, outrage trail distribution of Ogun relief materials

It is complaint galore as Ogun State government commenced the distribution of relief packages to residents of the state who are poor and vulnerable.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that the relief packages, according to Governor Dapo Abiodun, are meant to be distributed to individual households to cushion the effect of the lockdown.

However, findings by our reporter showed that the stimulus package, comprising of 5kg of rice, 5kg of beans, 5kg of garri, sachets of tomato sauce, sachets of groundnut oil, noodles and pasta spices, are being distributed to CDCs, which in turn distributes to CDAs for further distribution to its residents.

Great Achiever Magazine learnt that 60 packs of the stimulus package was delivered to Adigbe Area CDC and Itesiwaju Adigbe Area CDC respectively.

A visit to Bolorunduro CDA in Adigbe Area of Abeokuta, revealed that a pack of the stimulus package, which could not go round the targeted people was received.
This therefore left members of the CDA in a dilemma because there are 44 households there.

The Chairman of Bolorunduro CDA, therefore summoned an emergency meeting among residents to deliberate on what to do with the only pack received from the CDC.

The residents later resolved to share it among three selected people who were deemed to be vulnerable.

Great Achiever Magazine learnt that the story is the same in other CDAs across the state, as residents complained that government did not live up to its promise of one stimulus package per individual households.

Some of the people who spoke to Great Achiever Magazine, advised the government to review the entire process of the distribution of relief materials and come up with what is acceptable to the people.
