The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, announced this on Thursday, while addressing newsmen at the conference room of the Ministry of Health, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Dr Coker said: "Today, I have good news. In the last 24 hours, three individuals have been given a clean bill of health and discharged from one of our isolation centres to join their families and resume their normal life, thus bringing the total number of discharged individuals to 6.
"Thus, we have only 3 active cases and they are being treated by our doctors and other healthcare workers in one of our Isolation and Treatment Centres".
The Commissioner said 210 persons who had contacts with the positive cases were identified, out of which 110 underwent the required 14 days quarantine period, explaining that only 2 of the number tested positive, while the remaining 108 tested negatives on completion of the quarantine period.
Dr Coker further disclosed that 100 others are however still observing the quarantine period and are being observed and monitored by the specialist doctors and other healthcare workers.
Great Achiever Magazine reports that the first fully state funded Molecular Lab in the country by Ogun State has been delivered and installed, according to Dr Coker.
She said the state is awaiting the accreditation of the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for it to commence full operation, as this will significantly boost the efforts of the state to test individuals with suspected symptoms.
According to the Commissioner, the state is also awaiting delivery of another Molecular Lab on Monday, as it has finalized the installation of Mobile Testing Booths to be deployed across the state, particularly around the vulnerable areas such as communities bordering Lagos to stem community transmission into Ogun State.
She assured that with measures put in place, the state should be able to have one-day return of test results for anyone suspected of having COVID-19 symptoms in the State.
Dr Coker said Governor Abiodun has continued to provide leadership and emphasised the need to bring the number of active cases to 0 and prevent further infection whatsoever and record no death in the state. Hence the continuous ramping up of the facilities, even with relatively lower number of positive cases and active cases.
The Commissioner enjoined the people to continue to observe social distancing, washing of hands with soap and use of alcohol-based sanitizer where there is no water, and use of a face mask, as measures put in place to flatten the curve of the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
