Ogun state government has donated some food items to officers and men across all security outfits operating in the state.
This is part of efforts of the state government to appreciate the work of the security personnel during the lockdown in Ogun state, as well as mitigate the effect of lockdown on their families.
Donating the food items on behalf of the state government, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said the security forces in the state are partners in the development agenda of the state.
"They are also family men and women who have to deal with not only their professions or careers, but have to deal and support their families at all times", said the Deputy Governor.
She said that immediately this lockdown became inevitable, the governor had a meeting with all the security chiefs to determine how best to manage the situation in the state, noting that within the period of lockdown, the state have had several challenges within the security architecture in the state which were professionally managed by these security forces.
‘’At the beginning we gave them some cash to be able to support their officers who were on special assignment. But today, we are now giving them (palliative) food items to support them as well. This will go to everybody, not just the police on the frontline who were supported with cash before, but this will go to everybody in all their barracks right across the state.
"We have here about 15 different agencies represented, the Police, Army, Customs, Immigration, TRACE, NDLEA, Civil Defence, DSS, So safe, others, so this is all encompassing relief package", she said.
Given out were "6000 bags of rice, 6000 bags of garri, 6000 bags of mealet, 6000 bags of maize, seasoning cubes, sanitisers, detergents and sanitary towels for their wives’’ she explained.
In his welcome address,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, AIG Olusola Subair (rtd), said the State government was passionate about the welfare of officers and men of security agencies, noting that the relief materials were extended to them as a show of appreciation.
Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of service chiefs and security agencies in the state, State Commandant, National Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Mr Ahmed Abodunrin, appreciated the state government for being people-friendly, noting that the palliative measures would aid them to re-double their efforts at ensuring the safety of lives and properties of the residents, assuring the Government of continued commitments to excellent security service delivery.
