Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, on Thursday, 26th November, 2020, commissioned several projects executed by Ewekoro local government under the leadership of Hon. Emmanuel Olumuyiwa Babayemi.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Afolabi Afuape, commended the Council Chairman and his team for the prudent management of the meagre resources available to the local government.
He lauded the chairman for the projects executed within a short period in office, and urged him to continue to do more.
The governor also thanked the people of the council area for their support to his administration, while encouraging them to give advice where necessary and feedback on the activity of his administration as it affects them.
Governor Abiodun solicited for more support to the Hon. Babayemi led administration in order to deliver more dividends of democracy.
Great Achiever Magazine reports that the projects executed by the administration of Hon. Babayemi include; A block of 3 classrooms with borehole, generator and toilet at African Church Primary School, Ajipatutu; Energization of Electric Transformer at Olorunsogo community, Camp, Itori; Motorized Borehole with Fetching Bay at Arigbajo.
In his welcome address, the Council Chairman thanked Governor Abiodun for releasing funds from the state account for the execution of the projects, saying that the generality of the people of the council area will remain grateful to the governor for his giant strides in facilitating developmental projects across the state in fulfilment of his "Building our future together" agenda.
Hon. Babayemi also thanked Hon. Afuape for his kind approval for the projects executed.
The local government chairman implored the teachers and students of African Church Primary School to see the newly commissioned block of classrooms as a collective property which must be guarded jealously for better preservation.
He further gave assurance that the local government will continue to embark on developmental projects and programmes that will make lives more meaningful to the people.
In an exclusive interview with Great Achiever Magazine, Hon. Babayemi thanked Governor Abiodun for the opportunity given to him to serve at the local government, which culminated into his achievements in office.
He said: "I'm very happy that we commissioned the projects that we started when we came into office.
"These projects will definitely be of benefit to our people. For instance, the block of classrooms we built at African Church Nursery and Primary School, Ajipatutu, will enhance learning by the pupils because we also provided water borehole and modern toilet facilities along with the block of classrooms.
"The state government under the leadership of Governor Abiodun gave us money to execute projects of our choice. And we also spent money from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) at the local government to execute some of the projects.
"We are not going to rest on our oars as we will continue to do more as a government.
"We have started the construction of staff quarters in August, while we will resuscitate some of the abandoned projects like the Ewekoro local government town hall which will boost our IGR. We also want to build marriage registry as a way of earning IGR, and we are considering Obada as its location because of the nearness to Abeokuta".
Hon. Babayemi disclosed that his administration has had its own share of challenges in office, as it had to battle with the problem of COVID-19 pandemic and also #EndSARS which had negative effects on the council's operations.
He however thanked God that the council was able to overcome, adding that "we look forward to a better 2021".
The local government chairman wants the people of Ewekoro local government to continue to have the trust and believe in him and his team, assuring that they will continue to serve them.
In her goodwill message, the Headteacher of African Church Primary School, Mrs. F.O Adeyemi, thanked Hon. Babayemi-led administration for the kind gesture, promising that the school will put the newly commissioned block of classrooms into good use.
The Olu of Itori, Oba Akorede Akamo, in his goodwill message commended the Council Chairman for the laudable projects he executed.
He called on the people of the local government to continue to give the chairman and his team the needed support and cooperation to enable them succeed in office.
The Olu of Ajipatutu, Oba Akeem Akinbiyi, was full of appreciation to the council chairman for citing the construction of block of classrooms project in his domain.
He assured Hon. Babayemi of his unflinching support to his administration.
Other Royal Fathers who gave goodwill messages of support and commendation to the council chairman include; Oba Mathew Ajibulu, Olu of Onigbedu and Oba Kayode Kusoro, Olu of Aga-Olowo.
The Ewekoro local government APC Chairman, Hon. Biodun Adeleye, also commended Hon. Babayemi for his exemplary performance in office, saying that he was not disappointed at his emergence as the council chairman.
Adeleye urged APC members and residents of Ewekoro local government to continue to support the administration of Hon. Babayemi for more dividends of democracy.
The Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. B.A Owolabi led Directors and Heads of Departments of the local government to the commissioning ceremony.
