'Naira rain' at maiden edition of Attacker Marathon Race

 

The athletes at the starting point of the marathon race at Ijebu-Igbo



The maiden edition of Attacker Marathon Race was held on Monday, 28th December, 2020, in Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State.


The marathon race attracted 202 athletes, out of which 9 were deaf and dumb.


The 10km race kicked off at 7am from Ijebu-Igbo, through Oru-Ijebu and ended at Ago-Iwoye.

The winners of the marathon race, Mokiu Ganiu (male category), Banwo Rukayat (female category) got a cash prize of N150,000.00 each, while the first runner-up, Ogunde Adeleye (male category), Adebayo Fatimo (female category) and second runner-up, Adesanya Jesutofunmi (male category), Onakoya Mariam (female category) were rewarded with cash prize of N100,000.00 and N50,000.00 each respectively.


Consolation cash prize of N20,000.00 each was given to participants who placed fourth to sixth position, while those from seventh to tenth position received cash prize of N10,000.00 each.

Several consolation gift items were distributed among the participants.


Great Achiever Magazine reports that a 5year-old girl, Doris Odeyemi, who participated in the race, won for herself scholarship from Primary 1 to SS3, cash prize of N20,000.00 and other gift items for putting up a good showing among adult participants despite placing 17th position.

The sponsor of the competition, Hon Adesegun Adekoya, Deputy Minority Whip, House of Representatives, expressed delight and satisfaction at the turn out and performance of the athletes who participated in the competition.


Adekoya assured that the marathon race will become an annual event with bigger and more attractive prizes.
