Ogun foremost politician and Ex-Finance Minster, Jubril Martins-Kuye dies at 78

A foremost politician in Ogun State, Senator (Chief) Jubril Martins-Kuye is dead.


Great Achiever Magazine reports that Aare Jubril Martins-Kuye died in the early hours of Sunday, at his Lagos residence.


Chief Martins-Kuye, who contested for the governorship seat in Ogun State in 1999, was born in Ago-Iwoye on 16th August, 1942, to Pa Jubril Giwa Kuye (JG Kuye) and Princess Alimat Aderonke Kuye.


Chief Kuye attended University of Ibadan, where he graduated with B.Sc Sociology in 1968. He later attended Harvard University Graduate Business School, Harvard, USA, and graduated in 1983.


Senator Martins-Kuye was Managing Director and Co-Founder of Pyramid Paper Products Ltd, Ikeja, from 1976 to 1981. He later became Chairman and Chief Executive of Pyramid Paper Group Ltd in 1981.


Chief Jubril Martins-Kuye was the Founder/Group Chairman, Crown Paper Group until his death.


He was elected Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1992, and elected Senate President Pro-tempo in November, 1993.


Senator Martins-Kuye was appointed Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Finance, and served from 1999 to 2003. He was appointed Pioneer Chairman, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), from 2009 to 2010.


He was again appointed and served as Minister of Commerce and Industry from 2010 to 2011.


Senator Jubril Martins-Kuye was conferred with the National Honour of, Officer of the Federal Republic (OFR).


Chief Martins-Kuye, the Aare Musulumi of Ogun State and a devout Muslim was survived by children and grandchildren, among whom is Engr. Mobolaji Olumide Kuye.
