OOU Students parley with Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, get 4-month house rent cancellation

The students of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, on Monday met with the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, on the need for the review of house rent payable by the university students in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic during the 2019/2020 academic session.


The meeting which took place at the Ebumawe's palace had in attendance, members of the Students Union Government, OOU Chief Security Officer, representatives of the Police, NSCDC, Landlords, Caretakers and other stakeholders.


The President of the Students Union Government (SUG), Comrade Awoyemi Oluwabunmi Michael, appealed to landlords and caretakers to consider cancellation or reduction of house rent for the university students who were forced to stay at home during the COVID-19 pandemic last year.


The SUG President also commended Ago-Iwoye community for the peaceful relationship between the residents and the university students, while calling for adequate security of students property.


Representatives of landlords and caretakers who spoke at the meeting, admitted that there was need to give succour to the students in the area of house rent in order to mitigate the loss they suffered by staying at home during the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.


Great Achiever Magazine reports that after a unanimous decision, Oba Adenugba announced cancellation of payment of four months house rent by the students for the 2019/2020 academic session.


The monarch commended the landlords and caretakers for their act of magnanimity and kind gesture, urging the students to reciprocate the good gesture by maintaining peace in the town at all times, and also being good ambassadors of the university.


The SUG President led other students to thank Oba Adenugba and the landlords and caretakers for their show of love to the students, promising that the students will continue to work for the peace and progress of the town.
