Ogun NUJ Chairmanship tussle: Court validates Amosu's election

Comrade Soji Amosu, Ogun NUJ Chairman

The election of Comrade Soji Amosu as the Chairman of Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has been validated by the National Industrial Court.

The court at its sitting in Ibadan on Wednesday, delivered a judgement in favour of the election of Comrade Soji Amosu and three others.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that the court, in suit number NICN/IB/85/2019, equally validated the election of Comrade Kunle Olayeni, Vice Chairman, Comrade Kunle Ewuoso, General Secretary and Comrade Abiodun Taiwo, Assistant General Secretary.

Justice J. D. Peters, who was the presiding Judge, declared as illegal and unconstitutional, the annulment of the March 29, 2019 election which brought the claimants into office.

Justice Peters also granted seven of the eight reliefs sought by the applicants and awarded a cost of N200,000 against the respondents.

Comrade Soji Amosu and three others had dragged the NUJ President, Comrade Chris Isiguzo, the NUJ National Secretary, Comrade Shuaib Leman, and 12 other defendants to court challenging the purported decision of the union’s national leadership to nullify their election.
