The Federal House of Representatives on Thursday, September 30, approved the establishment of Federal College of Education (Technical), Ako, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State.
Great Achiever Magazine reports that the approval was consequent upon the report of the Committee on Tertiary Education and Services on a Bill For An Act to Provide For the Establishment of The Federal College of Education (Technical), Ako, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State; And For Other Related Matters (HB 430).
The Bill for the establishment of the Federal College of Education, Ako, Ago-Iwoye, which is the first Federal Tertiary Institution in Ijebuland, was sponsored by the Deputy Minority Whip, Rt. Hon. Abdel-Majid Adesegun Adekoya.
The lawmaker, who is representing Ijebu North/Ijebu East/Ogun Waterside Federal Constituency said, “Ijebuland which produced the likes of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Tai Solarin, the incumbent Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Professors Wole Soyinka, Onabamiro, Awokoya and a host of others has not had a single Federal Tertiary institution in over 60 years.
"I consider it a milestone because the establishment of the Federal College of Education (Technical) will increase access to affordable and quality education by both indigenes and non indigenes of Ijebuland.
"It will also open up the immediate community to other social and economic benefits”, Adekoya concluded.
