Nigerians applaud Supreme Court order extending validity of old notes

A cross section of Nigerians have described as a huge relief the supreme court order restraining the Central Bank and the Federal Government from ending the validity of old N200, N500, and N1000 denominations on February 10, 2023.

Some of them who spoke with ait.live said the restraining order will encourage those Nigerians who have now abandoned their businesses in search of cash to take care of their families.

The Central Bank of Nigeria had in October 2022 announced January 31st, 2023, as deadline for the old N200, N500, and the N1000 denominations as legal tender in Nigeria.

Few days to the expiration of the date, it became clear to both the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government that the January 31 was not feasible due to the inadequate circulation of the new naira notes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government, therefore, adjusted the deadline to February 10, 2023.

Since then, it has become serious challenge for Nigerians who want to get cash for their daily transactions.

These Nigerians want the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Government to adhere to the Supreme court order in the interest of all.

Nigerians have certainly been through difficult times in the last two weeks as many practically abandoned their businesses to go queue for hours in search of cash to take care of their families.
