How two Speakers emerged in Nasarawa State Assembly

The immediate past speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Babarabe, and another All Progressives Congress, APC member, Daniel Ogazi have both been elected Speakers of the 7th assembly at different sittings in two separate locations.

While Ibrahim Babarabe was elected by 11 of the 24 members of the Assembly at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Daniel Ogazi was elected on the floor of the Assembly by 12 of his colleagues.

Hours after security barricade at the entrance into the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Acting Clerk, Ibrahim Musa in a statement announced an indefinite postponement of the inauguration of the seventh session of the Assembly earlier scheduled for Tuesday, June 6.

A group of 11 members-elect however converged on the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs with the Acting Clerk to elect the immediate past Speaker, Ibrahim Babarabe.

Shortly after the election of Ibrahim Babarabe as Speaker, the 11 members rushed to the Government House to brief Governor Abdullahi Sule on the outcome of the Assembly election.

Meanwhile, the other group of 13 members-elect who forced themselves through the security barricade into the Assembly complex, elected Daniel Ogazi as their Speaker on the floor of House.

For now, the two lawmakers, Ibrahim Babarabe and Daniel Ogazi are laying claim to the Speakership of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
