Yeye Funke Bakre becomes new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye

A successful banker and prominent businesswoman, Yeye Funke Bakre, has been confirmed as the new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye.

Great Achiever Magazine reports that the confirmation of Yeye Funke Bakre as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye was announced by the Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, consequent upon the traditional rites of the Chieftaincy title which were performed at the Ebumawe's palace on Saturday, 16th September, 2023.

The Quarter Chiefs and other traditional title holders in Ago-Iwoye, as well as prominent indigenes of the town attended the event, during which prayers were offered for the new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye.

Oba Adenugba, while speaking at the occasion said that the choice of Yeye Funke Bakre was made after due diligence and careful consideration of her personality, achievements in life and contributions to the development of Ago-Iwoye and humanity at large.

The monarch said Yeye Funke Bakre, like her husband, Oluomo Femi Bakre has never been found wanting whenever she was called upon to support development initiatives in Ago-Iwoye.

Oba Adenugba commended Yeye Funke Bakre for being good ambassador of Ago-Iwoye wherever she found herself, noting that with the conferment of Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye on her, he has no doubt that she will continue to use her influence and connection to bring positive development to Ago-Iwoye.

The royal father said the installation ceremony of Yeye Funke Bakre as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye will come up at a later date.

In a chat with Great Achiever Magazine, Yeye Funke Bakre, who was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Iya-Afin Oluomo alongside her husband, Femi Bakre, who was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Oluomo of Ago-Iwoye by Oba Adenugba in 2005, assured that she will not betray the confidence reposed in her as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye.

The new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye promised to show good leadership and serve as a rallying point for further development of the town.

She assured of her loyalty to Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye and the entire indigenes of the town in the discharge of her duties as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye, urging all Sons and Daughters of Ago-Iwoye to work in unison to take Ago-Iwoye to higher level.

Her husband, Oluomo Femi Bakre, thanked Oba Adenugba for finding his wife worthy of becoming Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye.

Iyalode Funke Bakre, a mother of three, was born 60 years ago into the family of Late Alhaji Tirimisiyu Olufodun and Alhaja S.O. Olufodun of Igan Quarters of Ago- Iwoye Kingdom.

She is a graduate of the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) where she obtained B.Sc in Business Administration with Second Class Upper division in 1986 and also Masters degree in Banking and Finance in 1998.

Iyalode Funke Bakre proceeded to Salford University, Manchester, United Kingdom for another Masters degree in Financial Services Management and graduated in 2015.

She is a member of several professional bodies such as:

- Fellow - The Institute of Management Specialists, UK


- Fellow - Chartered Institute of Management of Nigeria 


- Associate - Institute of Financial and Investment Analysts, Nigeria


Iyalode Funke Bakre has worked in various organisations such as:  Pyramid Paper Products Ltd; West African Paper Company Ltd and National Clearing & Forwarding Agency between September 1986 and June 1990 before she crossed to the banking industry.

Her banking career spanned North-South Bank Plc in June 1990 where she held many positions before transferring her services to Chartered Bank Plc in November 1997. The bank merged with IBTC and became Stanbic IBTC Bank Plc and she worked with the bank for many years and rose to the Manager Cadre and was branch manager of  Murtala Mohammed International  Airport branch; Toyin Street branch; Oba Akran branch.

Iyalode Funke Bakre pioneered Ojodu branch management and later Afribank branch from April 2002 to January 2016 when she retired from the banking  industry after 19 years of meritorious services.

Upon retirement from the banking industry, she ventured into her private  business and currently she is the Group Managing Director of Laudable Group of Companies; Laudable Freight Ltd; Laudable Express Ltd; Laudable Haulage Ltd & Laudable Travels & Tours Ltd.

Iyalode Funke Bakre has been honoured with several Chieftaincy titles in recognition and appreciation of her selfless service to several communities and humanity at large.

Iyalode Funke Bakre is a recipient of several awards amongst which are: Award of Illustrious Daughter of Ago-Iwoye by Great Achiever Magazine in 2015; One of the 100 most influential women in Ogun State in 2021; Outstanding Woman of The Year Award in 2023.
