Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye installs new Balogun, Yeye Balogun, Iyalode, Akogun, Yeye Akogun

Saturday, 10th February, 2024, five prominent and distinguished indigenes of Ago-Iwoye were conferred with five of the high ranking Chieftaincy titles in Ago-Iwoye.


They are; Col (Dr.) Ademola Onalaja, KJW, a retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army and Security Expert, who was installed as the new Balogun of Ago-Iwoye and his amiable wife, Lady (Mrs) Roselyn Onalaja, the Managing Consultant of Stresert Services Ltd who was installed as Yeye Balogun of Ago-Iwoye. Chief (Mrs) Khadijat Adefunke Bakre, a retired Banker and accomplished Businesswoman, was installed as the new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye and Alhaji Liadi Olusanya Yusuf was installed as Akogun of Ago-Iwoye along with his wife, Mrs Bola Olusanya who was installed as Yeye Akogun of Ago-Iwoye.

They were all cynosure of all eyes at the Ebumawe’s Palace on Saturday, 10th February, 2024, as they received their certificates and instruments of office from His Royal Highness, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye, who performed the installation rites for them in the presence of family, friends and notable guests from across the country.


Col (Dr) Ademola Onalaja succeeds Late Chief Jimoh Adenuga Kawonise, who held the title of Balogun from 1989 to 2007, while his wife will be the first Yeye Balogun of Ago-Iwoye. Alhaja Khadijat Bakre succeeds Late Alhaja Mujeedat Adebamiro Kazeem Eleshin, who held the title of Iyalode from 1991 to 2016, while Alhaji Liadi Yusuf succeeds Late Chief S. Olaide Balogun.

Oba Adenugba said the choice of Col (Dr) Ademola Onalaja as the new Balogun of Ago-Iwoye was a popular one, given his antecedents and various contributions to the development of Ago-Iwoye, noting that Ademola is an accomplished military officer whose role in Nation building was incomparable, having served Nigeria in several capacities while in active service.


The Monarch observed that Ademola Onalaja brought honour not only to Nigeria, but also to Ago-Iwoye, which he has made proud and placed in the world map, as he described the new Balogun of Ago-Iwoye as a man of honour and integrity whose wealth of experience would be of immense value to the continued progress and development of Ago-Iwoye.


Oba Adenugba prayed for the success of Col Ademola Onalaja as he steps in as the new Balogun of Ago-Iwoye.

The Baba Oba of Ago-Iwoye, Maj. Gen. S.A Awosanya (rtd.), in his remarks congratulated Col Ademola Onalaja on his new title which he said was well deserved, and expressed happiness for being in the same military profession with Onalaja in the past, as he assured that the new Balogun of Ago-Iwoye would live up to expectation in view of his several accomplishments when he was in active service as a Military Officer.


Balogun Demola Onalaja, while speaking on his new title, expressed his appreciation to Oba Abdul-Razaq Adenugba and the entire people of Ago-Iwoye for finding him worthy of the great honour, adding that he would continue to give priority to the affairs of Ago-Iwoye in line with his new title.


In the same vein, Oba Abdul-Razaq Adesina Adenugba, while speaking on the appointment of Chief (Mrs) Khadijat Funke Bakre as the new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye, said she was chosen after due diligence and careful consideration of her personality, achievements in life and contributions to the development of Ago-Iwoye and humanity at large.


The Royal Father said Chief (Mrs) Funke Bakre, like her husband, Oluomo Femi Bakre has never been found wanting whenever she was called upon to support development initiatives in Ago-Iwoye. 


Oba Adenugba commended Alhaja Funke Bakre for being good ambassador of Ago-Iwoye wherever she found herself, noting that with the conferment of Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye on her, he has no doubt that she will continue to use her influence and connection to bring positive development to Ago-Iwoye.


In a chat with Great Achiever Magazine, Chief (Mrs) Funke Bakre, who was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Iya-Afin Oluomo alongside her husband, Femi Bakre, who was conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Oluomo of Ago-Iwoye by Oba Adenugba in 2005, assured that she will not betray the confidence reposed in her as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye.


The new Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye promised to show good leadership and serve as a rallying point for further development of the town, while assuring of her loyalty to Ebumawe of Ago-Iwoye and the entire indigenes of the town in the discharge of her duties as Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye, as she urged all Sons and Daughters of Ago-Iwoye to work in unison to take Ago-Iwoye to higher level. 


Her husband, Oluomo Femi Bakre, thanked Oba Adenugba for finding his wife worthy of becoming Iyalode of Ago-Iwoye, saying that his family will forever be grateful to Oba Adenugba and the people of Ago-Iwoye for the recognition being accorded his family at all times. He said his family will continue to contribute its quota to the development of Ago-Iwoye.


Another prominent son of the town who was installed as the new Akogun of Ago-Iwoye is Alhaji Liadi Olusanya Yusuf, a professional and seasoned Quantity Surveyor whose appointment as Akogun has been described as a round peg in a round hole.


Oba Adenugba said Alhaji Yusuf is one of the Illustrious indigenes of Ago-Iwoye whose contributions to the development of the town remain indelible, while noting that he is a perfect example of his father, Baba Agbede, who has played prominent roles in the peace and unity which the town has been witnessing.


The Monarch praised the new Akogun of Ago-Iwoye for being a good ambassador of the town wherever he found himself.


Alhaji Liadi Yusuf, a silent achiever and philanthropist of note has contributed remarkably to the development of Ago-Iwoye through his selfless service to the town and less privileged people.


In an interview with Great Achiever Magazine, Alhaji Yusuf, on behalf of his wife, Mrs Bola Olusanya, who was installed as Yeye Akogun of Ago-Iwoye, thanked God and Oba Adenugba for the honour and recognition as well as being found worthy and given the opportunity to continue to serve his people as the Akogun of Ago-Iwoye.


He assured the people of Ago-Iwoye of his commitment to peace, unity and development of the town at all times.


Alhaji Liadi Olusanya Yusuf is an accomplished Quantity Surveyor and Qualified Professional Associate Member of the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors (MNIQS). In 1996, he took the bold step of establishing his own private business, Loy-Cost Associates (A Consulting Firm of Quantity Surveyors, Construction Economists and Project Managers), where he is a Principal Partner.
