The Publisher of Great Achiever Magazine, Yomi Ogunsanu, on Sunday, 17th March, 2024, hosted the Annual Ramadan Tafsir at his Ago-Iwoye residence.

The Igan Itun-Nla Muslim Community, Ago-Iwoye, led by Imam Akorede Badru, facilitated the Annual Ramadan Tafsir which was attended by Muslim faithful in the town.

Imam Akorede Badru

Imam Badru during his sermons congratulated the Muslims across the world for witnessing this year's Ramadan.

He urged Muslims to take advantage of the Ramadan period to pray for peace across the world, noting that peace is essential to human existence, without which there cannot be development.

Imam Badru called on Muslims to pray for forgiveness of their sins and make genuine requests from Allah while fasting because the month of Ramadan is a special period when prayers are answered.

He asked Islamic adherents to observe piety and be more charitable in the holy month of Ramadan as rewards for such are enormous.

Cross section of Islamic clerics

The Cleric commended Yomi Ogunsanu and his siblings for hosting the Ramadan Tafsir in honour of their late father, Alhaji S.O Ogunsanu, who was described as a respectable religious leader and pillar of Islam in Ago-Iwoye during his lifetime.

In a lecture titled, "Role of the Mass Media on Social Change - The Islamic Perspective", which was delivered at the occasion by Alfa Ismail Bello, the Mufassir Igan, Ago-Iwoye, Media Practitioners were challenged to use their profession to shape the society.

Mufassir Ismail Bello said Section 22 of the Nigerian constitution has placed enormous responsibility on the media to hold the government accountable to the people, and therefore, Media Practitioners must live up to the responsibility by keeping members of the public informed at all times about the activities of government.

Alfa Bello said government too deserves to have feedback from members of the public, which the Media Practitioners must ensure that it is given.

He said Media Practice requires great caution, as any inaccurate information can spark crisis in the land, particularly in this era of social media when information travels at supersonic speed.

Alfa Bello, who described Media Practitioners as opinion moulders, wants the fear of God to be an essential ingredient of media practice as this will serve as check on whoever is tempted to put false narrative in the public space in the guise of news.

Quoting from the Holy Quran, Alfa Bello said Allah wants every human being to live at peace with one another and any utterances either by words of mouth or writing that can disrupt peace of the society is unacceptable.

He said Mass Media is a veritable tool for reorientation and promotion of peace and harmony in the land, which is supported by Islam.

Alfa Ismail Bello encouraged Islamic scholars to continue to preach the word of Allah more often on Radio, Television, Social Media, so as to correct the social ills that are rampant in the society even after the month of Ramadan.
