Organised labour in Nigeria has expressed hope that the withdrawal of the minimum wage for further consultations with state governors and the organised private sector will be in favour of the ordinary worker.
This hope was expressed by the Trade Union Congress and the Nigeria Labour Congress when they granted audience to officials of Kogi State government, led by the special Adviser to Governor Usman Ododo on Labour Matters, Onuh Edoka.
A few hours after this comment by the Minister of Labour, the Executive Council of the Federation on Tuesday stepped down the document for further consultation on the two figures of N62,000 and N250,000.
However, TUC President and other labour leaders are urging state governors to brace up and begin saving to pay a new national minimum wage that would reduce the current economic hardship on workers.
These labour leaders are also commending the Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo for appointing former labour leaders into his government and upscaling workers’ welfare
The Special Adviser on Labour matters to Kogi State governor, Onuh Edoka, a former NLC State Chairman, led his team to the National Secretariat of NLC, TUC, NULGE, MHWUN and NUT.
