Senate President tenders apology to Senator Natasha over 'nightclub' remarks

Senator Natasha and Senator Akpabio

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has apologised to the Senator representing Kogi Central District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over some remarks he made during Senate plenary proceedings last week

Akpabio had during a debate on the National Transportation Bill scolded Senator Natasha for speaking without being recognised as stipulated by the Senate rules, asking her not to speak like she was in a “nightclub”.

Speaking at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, Akpabio said he would never intentionally denigrate any woman.

The Senate President said his phone and that of his wife have been bombarded with calls and text messages, most of them “insulting.”

The Senate President said “Distinguished Senator Natasaha, I want to apologise to you.

“The interest shown in the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward”

“Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media.”

Senator Akpabio also denied reports on the Social media claiming that he has “numerous girlfriends.”
