Supreme Court grants financial autonomy to LG Councils

The Supreme Court has ordered payment of funds to 774 Local Government Councils directly from the Federation Account. This follows lead judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim in suit brought by Federal Government against State Governors.

The apex court has declared as unconstitutional the operational status of the infamous State and Local Governments Joint Account and insists that the local councils must manage their funds directly.
