Youth Corp members posted to Ekiti State, South-West Nigeria, have for several years been receiving lectures under a tree during their three-week orientation programme.
The situation reflects the lack of basic amenities and infrastructure, including habitable hostels and a functional health centre at the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC) Orientation Camp.
This prompted the NYSC in the state to appeal to the Senate Committee on Youth Development and Community Engagement led by Yemi Adaramodu to help solve some of the pressing challenges.
In his response, Yemi Adaramodu, who is the Senate Spokesperson and Chairman of the Committee on Community Engagement, said he will personally fix some of the basic needs in the camp while others will be included in his constituency projects. Adaramodu is the Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Senator Adaramodu advised the youth corp members in Ekiti State to be of good behaviour and not be limited by the conditions of the orientation camp.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Adesola Adedayo, said the State Government has been working with the NYSC authorities to address some of the challenges.
