The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has honoured the Chief of Staff to Ogun State Governor, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, with Pillar of Good Governance Award.
The Award ceremony was held on Thursday, 27th March, 2025, at NUJ Secretariat, Iwe Iroyin House, Abeokuta.
The Chairman of Ogun State Council of NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, while welcoming guests to the occasion, said the Award conferred on Dr Taiwo was to acknowledge his unwavering support for the Ogun State chapter of NUJ, adding that Dr. Taiwo’s commitment to enhancing the quality of governance in Ogun State is nothing short of inspiring.
Comrade Olanrewaju described Dr. Taiwo as a remarkable leader and dedicated public servant who has consistently demonstrated that effective leadership is rooted in compassion and dedication to the citizens.
He said Dr. Taiwo’s efforts has not only uplifted the voice of the people, but also established a framework for accountability and progress that will benefit generations to come.
Olanrewaju disclosed that honouring Dr. Taiwo as a Pillar of Support to the Ogun State NUJ, reaffirms the importance of collaboration between government and the fourth estate, understanding that together “we can build a well-informed and empowered citizenry”.
The NUJ Chairman commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for the appointment of Onilisa of Lisa, Oba Najeemdeen Odugbemi, and also for approving Hajj slot for a member of Ogun NUJ.
He reminded the governor of his promise to build a new secretariat and event centre for the Council.
In his acceptance speech at the occasion, Dr. Toyin Taiwo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, for the remarkable honour.
Dr. Taiwo dedicated the award to the resilient and hardworking people of Ogun State, whose unwavering trust and support, according to him, “inspire us to serve with even greater dedication”.
“Be assured, we will not relent in our pursuit of making Ogun State a beacon of excellence in governance, development, and democratic leadership”, the Chief of Staff concluded.
The Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, in his goodwill message, said the decoration of Dr. Toyin Taiwo as the ‘Pillar of Good Governance’ is an honour well-deserved and an acknowledgment of his dedication to service and accountability in governance.
Onasanya said the recognition coming from the media, the watchdog of the society, speaks volumes about Dr. Taiwo’s significant role and credibility in the governance structure in Ogun State.
He congratulated Dr. Toyin Taiwo on the prestigious honour, hoping that the recognition will spur him to even greater heights in the service of Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.
The Head of Service also commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, for the noble initiative of recognizing individuals who have made significant impacts in governance and society at large.
